Below are some instructions that might help you resolve the problem in some instances if the drive has not failed completely. Now, with Microsoft Windows and HP have stopped supporting Windows 7 Vista, I am stuck with this problem. There could be several reasons why Microsoft Windows or other applications do not see or does not detect a CD, DVD, or Blu-Ray drive. Please note before connecting the drive, I had cleaned the lens. When I tried to play the CD, alas, the same event is repeated. Suspecting some loss of communication between laptop motherboard and optical drive, I removed the integral optical disc drive and connected it as an external drive by means of a SATA cum Power cable to the USB port of the laptop. While trouble shooting for hardware failures, I came across a message " Windows did not detect a DVD playback device in your computer", when there is one very much! What does it mean?I am totally confused. The music library is having previously uploaded songs, when the disc drive was working normally and I am able to listen to those songs. The HP laptop had come with Windows Media Player. The cd/dvd drive is showing up in BIOS boot order list as 'Internal CD/DVD ROM Drive' I had checked Device Manager and drivers and all the procedures as suggested by HP. I had tried all the trouble shooting steps as suggested by HP support. Whenever I try to play a CD or DVD by selecting and opening the BD ROM (in my case E drive) icon, the cd/dvd is ejected, with a pop up message 'Insert the Cd'.It seems it is not able to detect the cd and thinking the tray is empty. It has got an integral optical disc drive Type BD-ROM/DVD CD Rewritable Drive. My laptop model is HP HDX X16T-1200 CTO Premium Notebook PC.
